Toastmasters

Toastmasters Youth Program was incorporated to develop mentee’s public
speaking and leadership skills. Toastmasters helps mentees overcome
nervousness when speaking in front of groups, listen carefully to the ideas of
other students, organize and present ideas logically and convincingly, and
build self-confidence and self-worth. The goal of this initiative is for every
Youth with Promise to engage in this journey, beginning with a single speech.
During their journey, they learn to tell stories; they listen and answer; plan
and lead; and learn to give and receive feedback. Through our community of
learners, they find their path to leadership.

Striving For Success Summit

The Striving for Success: Black Male Summit is a day-long event that inspires
African-American males as they pursue their education. These young males
meet successful African-American professionals and attend motivational
workshops. Attendees receive presentations from local experts in the
following areas: Education, Business, Health, Faith, Money & Finance and the
Justice System. The Summit is co-hosted by 100 Black Men of Omaha,
Empowerment Network, and Urban League of Nebraska. The summit is
primarily for 9th grade African-American males.

Strategic Math Tutoring (SMT)

Strategic Math Tutoring (SMT) was designed to address the growing need to increase or raise math grades of mentees and create independent, life-long learners through teaching students how to use resources to complete
homework independently.

Saturday Academy

In partnership with Title I and Omaha Public Schools, this program coincides
with the OPS school year and addresses the educational, cultural and self-
esteem gaps experienced by 2nd – 5th grade students.

Real Talk With The 100 – Parent Edition

Similar to ‘Real Talk with the 100’, our ‘Real Talk with the 100 – Parent
Edition’ was established to help support parents of both our Saturday
Academy and LMA students. Beginning during the 2019-2020 academic year,
the “Strength Based Parenting” book was implemented and provided to
all participating parents/guardians. Like the ‘Real Talk with the 100’
initiative, this program gives parents/guardians an opportunity to share the
success and challenges they are facing in a safe space.

Real Talk With The 100

Real Talk with the 100 was incorporated to help support minority male
youth’s social and emotional development through group processing. This
group-mentoring program provides an environment where various issues
affecting our minority youth can be addressed and discussed. Mentees are
able to express themselves and voice their opinions while 100 Black Men of
Omaha members and mentors, who stem from various professions, are able
to help guide mentees through safe, healthy, and productive discussions.

Real Men Greet

A new program introduced during the 2015-2016 school year provides 100
Black Men of Omaha members and mentors to greet students at King
Elementary every Monday morning. This initiative gives students an extra
boost of excitement and motivation to start their week at school.

Pathways To Success

The program purpose is to increase the understanding of entrepreneurship
and career readiness for inter-city youth. Our Pathways to Success (PTS)
program provides participants with a basic understanding of
entrepreneurship and career essentials in corporate culture.

Math Camp

The 100 Math Camp was developed in partnership with Title I to keep
Saturday Academy students engaged during the summer. This three-day
program allows students to engage with fun math activities designed as a
jumpstart for their back-to-school adventures.
Students work with state certified teachers who conduct fun STEM activities
that keep students engaged and allows for a smoother transition for students
participating in the 100 Saturday Academy.

Jet Cohort

Launching in the Fall of 2019, the JET Cohorts were established to serve
Black, male students at Benson, North, and Northwest high schools. This
partnership between the aforementioned Omaha Public Schools (OPS) high
schools, the 100 Black Men of Omaha, Metropolitan Community College, and
the Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers Scholarship foundation seek to provide an
avenue for young men interested in the trades. Utilizing “The 7 Habits of
Highly Effective Teens,” a structured conversation takes place that helps
introduce these young men to topics that can assist in ensuring their
academic and social success. The cohorts meet once a month with members
of the 100 Black Men of Omaha staff and network.
