OMAHA A sold-out gala event took place at the Hilton in downtown Omaha on Saturday night.
The group “100 Black Men of Omaha” honored three men, while celebrating 20 years of success.
The group, which focuses on uplifting the community by empowering the youth in our area, is attempting to raise $100,000 for future endeavors. On Saturday night they held their 10th annual “Men of Honor” event.
Executive Director James Mason, Jr. told WOWT 6 News that this was an important occasion. According to Mason, this is a time that mentors are needed in the Omaha community more than ever.
“Especially in North Omaha where you’re looking at almost 70-percent of the families coming from single family homes,” said Mason. “We’re real mean giving real time so they can understand that they can be from all walks of life and they can have a successful career.”
Three men were honored at this year’s event: Rev. Dr. Selwyn Q. Bachus, Eric L. Butler and Johnny Rodgers.
